It was wonderful to see the infant staff dress up as different Book characters today. They had all made a great effort with their costumes, well done! The staff enjoyed telling the children about the character that they had dressed up as and why they had chosen that particular character.

Pit was a wonderful day and everyone enjoyed all the activities that took place.

World Book Day in the Infant Department!

Date: 7th Mar 2019 @ 10:29am

We had a wonderful celebration for World Book Day in the Infant Department today!

The day started off with all the children gathering in the hall and class by class the children paraded around the hall so we could all see their wonderful costumes!

Well done everyone for making such a fantastic effort and to see the diversity of the costumes from many different books.

The children all enjoyed singing songs from many famous books such as The Lion King, Mary Poppins and many other Disney books.

The children then went to their classrooms where they all enjoyed presenting their book and character to the other children. It was wonderful to see how many different genres and types of books the children are reading.

Later on in the morning, the infant  children all received a visit from their ‘buddy’ class in the juniors and they enjoyed reading the book that their  buddy child had made for them. The children can take these books home and keep them as a special momento from the day.

Each child received a special World Book Day sticker and a book token. Happy reading everyone!

Our working walls

Date: 15th Feb 2019 @ 1:51pm

We enjoy having working walls in our classroom because it helps us see what we have learnt as the topic goes on. We can choose challenges when we finish our work and show our answers on post it notes. We can also write questions so that the teacher recognises what we want to learn about and often we find the answers together.

Wellbeing week

Date: 15th Feb 2019 @ 1:47pm

During Well-being week we brought in our favourite book to enjoy quiet reading time, this allowed us all to have a peaceful end to our busy week at school. We spoke about the importance of going to bed early and how reading before bed was a calm way to end our day. We also enjoyed our mile walk. It was great to be out in the fresh air. In our PHSE lessons, we set goals and dreams. We discussed how it was important to always have a growth mindset and when we work hard towards something we often reach our dreams and goals. As you can see from our post it notes on our working wall, we have all improved at something, some examples are from at home and school.

This half term our Geography topic has been ‘Let’s go to China’. We have been learning about landmarks in China and we have looked closely at the Terracotta Army. In Design Technology we have created our very own Terracotta Army soldiers. We used clay to shape our figures and used modelling tools to show details. We had lots of fun!

Date: 7th Feb 2019 @ 2:34pm

Today, Year 2 had a visit from local Community Safety Officer, Lindsay King, who is based at Altrincham Police Station.

Mrs King shared a very informative presentation with the children about online safety.

Mrs King asked the children which electronic devices they used and what they used them for. She explained the different uses and functions of various apps and how old you need to be to actually have your own account. Mrs King talked about various topics such as cyber bullying, inappropriate content, spam and internet usage. The children also shared their own experiences with Mrs King. The presentation was extremely informative and the children took home many safety messages such as never giving out personal information, only playing on age appropriate games, never talking to strangers online and how to ignore spam messages. The children listened intently to the whole of the presentation and will remember how to have fun and stay safe online.

Safer Internet Day in the Infant Department

Date: 5th Feb 2019 @ 3:47pm

Today was Safer Internet Day and the day started with the infant children listening to an assembly which was presented to them by the junior 'Digital Leaders'. This assembly was all about how to stay safe online and how it is incredibly important that we never share our personal information with others online.

In their classrooms the children enjoyed completing different activities linked to the theme of the day, which included making and designing their own Safer Internet Day alien badges and each child received their own wristband which will serve as a reminder of all the important messages taught today.

Safer Internet Day posters

Date: 24th Jan 2019 @ 1:47pm

Today the junior Digital Leadership Team came to the Infant department to help the infant School Councillors make posters for Safer Internet Day. They worked as teams creating their own posters on the laptops and each poster carried very important messages and advice about how to stay safe online. These posters were then printed out and displayed around the school. Safer Internet Day is on Tuesday 5th February and the children will be doing lots of different and varied activities on this day, all with important information about how to stay safe online.

Friendship - playground activities

Date: 15th Nov 2018 @ 3:57pm

The Well-being Champions from the Reception, infant and junior department have been working hard to design and make lots of different playground activities for our Friendship Week. They wanted to design challenges that will encourage children to make new friends, read together and to problem solve. The Well-being Champions have written and illustrated beautiful friendship stories, made friendship word searches, created a friendship scavenger hunt and many more activities. The children have really enjoyed the new challenges and activities in the playground this week.

Diary is stolen!

Date: 15th Nov 2018 @ 3:40pm

Unfortunately we came into school to see that Samuel Pepys diary had been stolen. It was the notorious Sticky Finger Steve. Luckily, the police came very quickly and put any evidence found into bags for us to see. We couldn’t go near the crime scene because it was taped off. We now have a very important job to do to help get the diary back. We need to write a persuasive letter to the thief to persuade him to give it back. We will have to use lots of persuasive openers and persuasive language to make sure he listens!

Special Delivery!

Date: 15th Nov 2018 @ 3:35pm

We had a very special delivery today all the way from London! The British’s Library have heard that we are learning about The Great Fire of London. They sent us Samuel Pepys’ diary and some bread that would have been just like the bread that was baked at Pudding Lane.  They also sent us some parmesan cheese, just like the cheese that Samuel Pepys hid under his floorboards. We loved tasting it and the smell of the freshly baked bread made our classrooms smell delicious!

Silly socks day for Friendship Week

Date: 15th Nov 2018 @ 3:33pm

This week is friendship week  and we have started the week by wearing odd socks. The message behind this is to see that all children are special and we are all different. Today, we all chose a “secret buddy”. We are going to try to do nice things for one another and play with children we don’t normally play with because often this leads to new friendships.

Remembrance Activities

Date: 15th Nov 2018 @ 3:28pm

Over the past week, we have taken part in lots of thought provoking activities which have helped us understand the importance of Remembrance Day. We all made a poppy out of felt which was used for a display in a local Church. We then wrote some prayers on poppy templates to create our own class wreath. We took part in the two minute silence on Friday to remember all those who lost their lives in the two World Wars. which was then followed by prayers and a performance of the “Last Post” by Ben in Year 6.

We then had a visit from Father John who told us about the Sacrement of Marriage. Following on from this we made crowns, flags and decorated paper plates for our Royal Wedding themed tea party. In the afternoon we all went out onto the field to have our tea party. We all brought in a packed lunch and listened to some of the juniors who played instruments. We then sang the British anthem together. We have all had a great day and can’t wait to see the wedding tomorrow!

Ahoy! Pirates in Year Two!

Date: 20th Apr 2018 @ 3:59pm

This week began with a surprise in our classrooms. We found a treasure map and some clues. Later in the week we all went on a treasure hunt to explore different settings that we might visit on our imaginary island. We also had to work out what the secret message was as it led to some treasure. As you can see from the pictures, we all had great fun! We are looking forward to seeing some fabulous pirate adventure stories next week!

Year 2 Titanic ball

Date: 29th Mar 2018 @ 10:02am

To celebrate all of our hard work during our History topic 'Titanic', this week Year 2 took part in a ball! The children dressed up as people who would have been onboard the ship in different classes and were able to sample some of the delcious food that would have been served to the passengers.
