Phonics Information

Thank you to the parents who attended the Phonics Workshops for Reception and Year 1.

At St. Vincent's Catholic Primary School we aim to foster a love of reading in all our children. All classes have stories appropriate to their age group read to them.

Phonics is taught through discrete daily sessions from EYFS to Year 2 and some sessions in KS2. The school follows the Letters and Sounds guidance. Children learn individual letter sounds and how to blend and segment in Reception. The Children read books from reading schemes which have been colour banded according to levels of difficulty. They include books from: Oxford Reading Tree (ORT), Rigby Star and. Badger Books

In key stage 2 children read short novels of their choice or books from the banded (ORT) reading scheme, which has been extended to include books at an appropriate level. All children are required to share these books with their parents at home, in order to develop their decoding and comprehension skills.

We really appreciate your feedback from the phonic workshop and have had some wonderful comments.
