Year 2 visit from Community Support Officer - Safer Internet Day
Date: 4th Feb 2020 @ 8:43pm
Following on from yesterday’s activities for Safer Internet Day, this afternoon the Year 2 children enjoyed a visit from Community Support Officer, Martin Thomasson from Altrincham Police Station. Martin delivered a power point presentation to the children and it contained very important messages about online safety and how to keep themselves safe and different suitable websites. He also talked about appropriate use of electronic devices, not sharing personal information, online gaming and chat rooms. Many of the children shared their own personal experiences and knowledge and there was time for a question and answer session at the end. Mrs Butler, one of our school governors, came to see the presentation and was very impressed with the sensible approach and attitudes of the year 2 children towards online safety.
Safer Internet Day in the Infant Department
Date: 4th Feb 2020 @ 8:19pm
Safer Internet Day in the Infant Department began with an assembly this morning led by the Junior Digital Leaders. Together, the Digital Leaders delivered a very informative assembly to the children. They talked through a power point presentation from the UK Safer Internet Centre. This year the theme is all about ‘Free to be me - exploring identity online.’ The Digital Leaders touched on incredibly important themes such as ‘What is the internet?’, ‘Is it ever safe to share personal information online?’, ‘Being kind online’ and ‘Asking parental consent to use websites.’ During the assembly, the children were invited to share their own experiences and knowledge. The children listened very attentively and the Digital Leaders shared very important information with them.
Following the assembly, the children went back to their own classes and completed lots of different activities and games about staying safe online. The year 1 children made posters based on the book ‘Smartie the Penguin’ which is all about online safety. The children then watched two video clips called ‘Free to be me - my online identity’ and following this they created their own ‘avatar’ and they made these into key rings that they can put on their school book bags which will serve as a talking point from today and a reminder of the important online safety messages that they were taught today.

Welcome to Year One.
We are all delighted with how well all the children have settled into Year One. We have been very busy working on lots of different topics and activities. As part of our Science topic we have been looking at how amazing our bodies are, we will be constructing life size skeletons and identifying the main bones of the body. During our Geography lessons we will be learning about the landscapes of Britain, which will include learning about features of different parts of the country. In Design Technology we created some amazing firework pictures and over the coming weeks we will be making wreaths using leaves and other natural materials.
In our English lessons, we have been working hard at using our 'Golden Rules' in all of our writing. The children know that all sentences need capital letters, full stops and finger spaces and they have learnt that they can make their work more interesting by adding adjectives.
The children are challenging themselves in Maths. We have been focussing on our core skills, such as, number bonds to 10 and 20, place value, ordinal numbers and we will be moving onto subtraction this half term.
We have enjoyed some yoga sessions, which are part of our whole school 'Wellbeing' strategy' which compliment our new Jigsaw PSHE shceme.
This year we have introduced some fantastic new online resources and we have appreicated the very positive feedback we have received and we will continue to provide a variety of different ways for you to help and support your child at home.
Thank you for your continued support.

World Book Day in the Infant Department!
Date: 7th Mar 2019 @ 10:29am
We had a wonderful celebration for World Book Day in the Infant Department today!
The day started off with all the children gathering in the hall and class by class the children paraded around the hall so we could all see their wonderful costumes!
Well done everyone for making such a fantastic effort and to see the diversity of the costumes from many different books.
The children all enjoyed singing songs from many famous books such as The Lion King, Mary Poppins and many other Disney books.
The children then went to their classrooms where they all enjoyed presenting their book and character to the other children. It was wonderful to see how many different genres and types of books the children are reading.
Later on in the morning, the infant children all received a visit from their ‘buddy’ class in the juniors and they enjoyed reading the book that their buddy child had made for them. The children can take these books home and keep them as a special momento from the day.
Each child received a special World Book Day sticker and a book token. Happy reading everyone!

Safer Internet Day in the Infant Department
Date: 5th Feb 2019 @ 3:47pm
Today was Safer Internet Day and the day started with the infant children listening to an assembly which was presented to them by the junior 'Digital Leaders'. This assembly was all about how to stay safe online and how it is incredibly important that we never share our personal information with others online.
In their classrooms the children enjoyed completing different activities linked to the theme of the day, which included making and designing their own Safer Internet Day alien badges and each child received their own wristband which will serve as a reminder of all the important messages taught today.
