Safer Internet Day in the Junior Department

Date: 5th Feb 2019 @ 7:48pm

Today the children in our school supported Safer Internet Day. The day started with an assembly by Mrs Needham who taught the KS2 department about what it means to consent to something and how we should ask permission before doing something online.

After, the digital leaders acted out some drama scenes which showed some incorrect behaviours online. The children then made suggestions about what should have happened.

All the children received their own St Vincent’s orange wristband to remind them of the messages from the day!

Each child also made a pledge about how they are going to behave online. You can see these displayed on the classroom windows.

Other activities the children completed were: a safer internet survey, an online choices quiz, drawing the internet activity and data jargon buster.

The Year 5 & 6 children had a fantastic workshop this afternoon by Ian Richardson from Intqual Pro. He taught the children about how to behave online, how to keep a safe password and just how many devices are connected to the internet including pillows and toasters!!! The session was ended with an interactive quiz and prizes. Well done to the winners and thank you to Ian Richardson and Barry Searle from Intqual Pro.

The day ended with the Digital leaders all receiving a GOLD note to thank them for all their effort and hard work over the last few weeks in preparation for today!

We hope all the children have enjoyed the day and learned lots about consent and correct behaviours when online.

Good luck to all the children in completing their ‘What would you do?’ homework.

Safer Internet Day posters

Date: 24th Jan 2019 @ 1:47pm

Today the junior Digital Leadership Team came to the Infant department to help the infant School Councillors make posters for Safer Internet Day. They worked as teams creating their own posters on the laptops and each poster carried very important messages and advice about how to stay safe online. These posters were then printed out and displayed around the school. Safer Internet Day is on Tuesday 5th February and the children will be doing lots of different and varied activities on this day, all with important information about how to stay safe online.

Online Safety Assembly by Google

Date: 12th Dec 2018 @ 8:39pm

Today the children in the junior department had a fantastic, interactive assembly by Google. They talked about their new scheme called ‘Be Internet Legends’. This teaches the children about how to stay safe online through five key areas:

Sharp - Think before you share

Alert - Check it’s for real

Secure - Protect your stuff

Kind - Respect each other

Brave - When in doubt, discuss

The children were reminded about how to play the game ‘Interland’ where they can visit different worlds and learn how to stay safe online.

Well done to all the children, you all joined in really well!

Thank you Mrs Shaw!

World War One - Remembrance Day. Year 5

Date: 7th Nov 2018 @ 6:27pm

Today in Year 5 we have been thinkg about Remembrance Day, which marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. On Sunday it will be100 years since the end of World War One.

Year 5 children have been writing their own poems to commemorate this day and they then copied these onto a poppy template which were then put together to create a wreath. The chlidren have been learning about what’s it was like to be a solider at war, the contribution of women to the war effort and how it affected the lives of everyday people.

The children also created their own World War One silhouette art pictures, featuring images of soldiers. These are very effective and create a dramatic image.

Remembrance Day Week
