Safer Internet Day in the Junior Department

Date: 5th Feb 2019 @ 7:48pm

Today the children in our school supported Safer Internet Day. The day started with an assembly by Mrs Needham who taught the KS2 department about what it means to consent to something and how we should ask permission before doing something online.

After, the digital leaders acted out some drama scenes which showed some incorrect behaviours online. The children then made suggestions about what should have happened.

All the children received their own St Vincent’s orange wristband to remind them of the messages from the day!

Each child also made a pledge about how they are going to behave online. You can see these displayed on the classroom windows.

Other activities the children completed were: a safer internet survey, an online choices quiz, drawing the internet activity and data jargon buster.

The Year 5 & 6 children had a fantastic workshop this afternoon by Ian Richardson from Intqual Pro. He taught the children about how to behave online, how to keep a safe password and just how many devices are connected to the internet including pillows and toasters!!! The session was ended with an interactive quiz and prizes. Well done to the winners and thank you to Ian Richardson and Barry Searle from Intqual Pro.

The day ended with the Digital leaders all receiving a GOLD note to thank them for all their effort and hard work over the last few weeks in preparation for today!

We hope all the children have enjoyed the day and learned lots about consent and correct behaviours when online.

Good luck to all the children in completing their ‘What would you do?’ homework.

Online Safety Assembly from Google

Date: 12th Dec 2018 @ 8:25pm

Today the children in the junior department had a fantastic, interactive assembly by Google. They talked about their new scheme called ‘Be Internet Legends’. This teaches the children all about how to stay safe online through five key areas:

Sharp - Think before you share

Alert - Check it’s for real

Secure - Protect your stuff

Kind - Respect each other

Brave - When in doubt, discuss

The children were reminded about how to play the game ‘Interland’ where they can visit different worlds and learn how to stay safe online.

Well done to all the children, you all joined in really well!

Year 4 sandwich Tasting

Date: 28th Jan 2018 @ 11:14am

Last week, the Year 4 classes celebrated learning about food and nutrition by preparing their own healthy sandwiches. The children had been preparing for this in Design Technology by investigating and tasting different types of bread and then chose their own fillings. The children brought in their own ingredients and together, as a class, we prepared some mouthwatering snacks. Take a look at our photos and try not to get 'food envy.'

St Ambrose Language Ambassadors

Date: 17th Dec 2017 @ 8:46pm

Year 4 were visited by 8 Language Ambassadors from St Ambrose College.

Four of the boys taught the children Spanish focusing on general information about Spain and the famous festival ‘La Tomatina’. The children learned about how the tomato fight starts, what to wear and where the festival takes place. They really enjoyed their first Spanish lesson. Gracias chicos!

The other four boys taught the children French focusing on the topic of animals. They learned how to say different animal names and played lots of fun games. The boys were impressed with how much French the Year 4 children know. Merci beaucoup aux garçons d’Ambrose.

Well done for all your hard work and participation Year 4.

Music concert

Date: 12th Dec 2017 @ 9:04pm

Many children performed in a music concert to showcase just how much they have learned over the term. We were all blown away by the talent. Well done to all who took part!

Year 4 Computing

Date: 6th Dec 2017 @ 8:39am

Year 4 have been having lots of fun in computing over the last few weeks. We have been using a program called Scratch to develop our coding skills. They were given the task of programming a cat to move around the track. They came up with many creative ways of moving the cat. Well done Year 4!

Gaelic Football

Date: 1st Oct 2017 @ 11:05am

In Year 4 we have been learning to play Gaelic Football with sessions every Tuesday morning with a Gaelic football coach. Most of the children in our class are new to the sport but that has not stopped them from being incredibly enthusiastic and determined in these sessions. As a result, we have spotted some very talented Gaelic footballers in our class. The children now look forward to this session every week. The coaching for Year 4 will stop at the end of this half-term but those still keen to play can join Mr Sands' after school Gaelic Club.

Whole School History Day

Date: 11th Jun 2017 @ 1:53pm

The children (and staff) enjoyed learning about the Normans on our Whole School History Day. We learned about who the Normans were and why there was a Norman Conquest of England. As well as this we created our own Bayeux Tapestry and learned how to dance like Normans. We held an election to see which of the viable candidates would be crowned next King of England. See if you can guess from the pictures who won the election!

Holy Communion

Date: 18th May 2017 @ 2:08pm

Mr McCann's class celebrated their first Holy Communion on Saturday 13th May. It was a wonderful day and thankfully the rain stayed off long enough for us to enjoy refreshments outside church after the service. The children's behaviour was impeccable and they were reverent and graceful at all times.  Many people complimented the children on their beautiful singing. The Year 3 staff would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the children, their families and all those who helped to make the day such a special occasion.

Meeting the FA Cup!

Date: 9th May 2017 @ 2:56pm

On Monday, we were given the opportunity to meet Premier League referee Anthony Taylor at Altrincham Community Hall.

Anthony has been named as this years FA Cup Final referee and not only did we get to ask him lots of questions, he also brought the actual FA Cup Final Trophy with him!

As you can see it was a great experience for everyone and Anthony give everyone a real insight into life as a referee.

Altrincham Community Cup

Date: 3rd May 2017 @ 6:11pm

On Tuesday, a Year 3 and Year 4 team from St Vincent's went to the J Davidson Stadium to take part in the Altrincham Community Cup. We were honoured to be invited by Altrincham Football Club to take part. The St Vincent's teams impressed many spectators with their skill, commitment and sportsmanship. The Year 3 team went on to win the Year 3 tournament, bringing the trophy back to St Vincent's. The Year 4s were incredibly unlucky and were defeated in the semi finals after a gruelling penalty shootout. We are very proud of all those who took part and are grateful to those who were able to come and show their support.

Marist Centre Retreat

Date: 4th Apr 2017 @ 6:17pm

Today our class visited the Marist Centre for a special retreat in preparation for Holy Communion. The children learned about The Mass and about the importance of making their First Sacraments. The children were welcomed by the wonderful Marist Sisters who helped to lead us in prayer and in song. Our day also involved dressing up for some performances, playing together and sharing food and drink. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I would also like to express my gratitude to the parent helpers who joined us today and to Mrs Davidson who also helped the children throughout the day.

Collective Worship

Date: 3rd Apr 2017 @ 10:32am

Year 3 have really enjoyed taking part in and preparing Collective Worship. Each week a different child has been selected to prepare Collective Worship and to lead the class in prayer and reflection. We have found this experience to be particularly useful as the children are developing a deeper knowledge of their faith whilst also preparing to make their First Sacraments.

Crazy Hair Day

Date: 2nd Apr 2017 @ 2:38pm

Year 3 enjoyed getting dressed up for Crazy Hair Day on Friday. Children showed up to school with weird, wonderful and wacky hairdos! There was everything from crazy curls and multi-coloured madness to a bird's nest in someone's hair. However, there was a reason for all of the silly hair. Children in Year 3 were raising money for 'Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group' This is a worthwhile cause which supports children suffering from these conditions and supports their families. During this season of Lent Year 3 have been thinking about what they can give to others and our fundraising will not stop here.
