Year 1 - Fruit Kebabs!

Today as part of the Computing topic ‘We are TV chefs’, the Year 1 children made their own delicious and healthy fruit kebabs. The year 4 and 5 Digital Leaders came to help the children and they also filmed them using the iPads so the year 1 children could have a go a being a tv chef and presenting their own tv programme, explaining the different steps of making the fruit kebab. When the kebabs were all made, it was time for the best part of the activity.... to eat them! The children all thoroughly enjoyed tasting them!

Friendship - playground activities

The Well-being Champions from the Reception, infant and junior department have been working hard to design and make lots of different playground activities for our Friendship Week. They wanted to design challenges that will encourage children to make new friends, read together and to problem solve. The Well-being Champions have written and illustrated beautiful friendship stories, made friendship word searches, created a friendship scavenger hunt and many more activities. The children have really enjoyed the new challenges and activities in the playground this week.

Friendship Dance Workshop

Today, to celebrate Friendship Week, our class have taken part in a very exciting dance workshop. We talked about different feelings and emotions and expressed our feelings through dance while working with a partner. We all had a lot of fun. 

Miss Slater’s start to the year

Welcome to Miss Slater's Class

We have had a very busy start to the year. We have celebrated UN Day, bonfire night, completed many reading challenges and have been working hard in all our subjects. We have been learning about Remebrance Day and performed our prayerful and thoughtful class assembly. The children put in lots of effort to learn their lines and did a fabulous job at spreading the message of remembering and peace. We have done further work in class on remebrance linked to British Values. We have written some wonderful prayers to pray for those who help people in our country and our beautiful world.

Safer Internet Day

In the Infant Department we had  a very busy and informative day for Internet Safety Day. The infant children enjoyed an assembly that was presented to them by the Year 5 digital leaders. The Year 5 children  delivered online safety messages to the children through role play and drama. 

In class the children then made their own online safety badges,which we are sure provided a talking point at home.

Year 2 children also made their own digital footprints and took part in a class quiz.

The Rosary with Year 5

On the 6th October Year 1 and Year 5 came together to pray The Rosary. The children made the session very peaceful and prayerful and enjoyed the opportunity to share an activity. 

Hunting for wildlife!

Today the Year 1 children enjoyed some short-lived sunshine and went exploring the school grounds for wildlife. The outdoor lesson was part of our science topic 'Animal Antics'. We worked in teams and used a tally chart to record what we saw. Later we returned to class to write up our findings. 

Year 3 Trip to the Manchester Museum

Year 3 went on a trip to the Manchester Museum to learn more about the Ancient Egyptians. We spent last half-term learning lots of facts and information about the Ancient Egyptians. This trip provided the children with an opportunity to further their learning and to discover other aspects of history that are on display at the Manchester Museum. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

The Normans have invaded!!

Oh no, the Normans have invaded St. Vincent's!!!

To celebrate our History day Year 3 have all dressed up as Normans. We have soldiers, kings, princesses and peasants roaming around our classrooms.

It has been a very exciting day, we have voted for a King of England, danced and replicated the Bayeux Tapestry. 

Thank you to all the children and adults at home who have put so much effort into today, it has been fantastic.

How does our garden grow?

Our class have been very busy planting seeds. We have also started to observe and record what happens when we put food colouring into the water of a white flower and some celery. Over the next few days we will write down any changes that we see and decide whether our predictions were correct or not.

Holy Communion

Mr McCann's class celebrated their first Holy Communion on Saturday 13th May. It was a wonderful day and thankfully the rain stayed off long enough for us to enjoy refreshments outside church after the service. The children's behaviour was impeccable and they were reverent and graceful at all times.  Many people complimented the children on their beautiful singing. The Year 3 staff would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the children, their families and all those who helped to make the day such a special occasion.

Meeting the FA Cup!

On Monday, we were given the opportunity to meet Premier League referee Anthony Taylor at Altrincham Community Hall.

Anthony has been named as this years FA Cup Final referee and not only did we get to ask him lots of questions, he also brought the actual FA Cup Final Trophy with him!

As you can see it was a great experience for everyone and Anthony give everyone a real insight into life as a referee. 

Altrincham Community Cup

On Tuesday, a Year 3 and Year 4 team from St Vincent's went to the J Davidson Stadium to take part in the Altrincham Community Cup. We were honoured to be invited by Altrincham Football Club to take part. The St Vincent's teams impressed many spectators with their skill, commitment and sportsmanship. The Year 3 team went on to win the Year 3 tournament, bringing the trophy back to St Vincent's. The Year 4s were incredibly unlucky and were defeated in the semi finals after a gruelling penalty shootout. We are very proud of all those who took part and are grateful to those who were able to come and show their support.

Marist Centre

Our class had a fantastic time visiting the Marist Centre together. We Are well and truly in the midst of our preparation for our First Holy Communion. We created role plays, poetry, songs and prayers to create our own service to celebrate receiving Christ. 

Collective Worship

Year 3 have really enjoyed taking part in and preparing Collective Worship. Each week a different child has been selected to prepare Collective Worship and to lead the class in prayer and reflection. We have found this experience to be particularly useful as the children are developing a deeper knowledge of their faith whilst also preparing to make their First Sacraments.

We are Growing our Mindset

We have been growing our Mindset in Year 3 and our class have made some 'Beautiful Oops' artwork to celebrate our mistakes and how to turn them into a masterpiece. Our work is based around the book 'Beautiful Oops' by Barney Saltzberg, "When you think you have made a mistake, think of it as an opportunity to make something beautiful."

British Science Week

Our class had lots of fun trying new and gooey experiments for British Science Week. One investigation involved mixing cornflour, water and food colouring to produce a very strange liquid/solid.

Crazy hair fundraiser!

This Lent, Year 3 have been back combing, hair spraying and dying their hair for charity to raise money for the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia trust. 

CAFOD fundraiser

Rosie, Mariella, Mia and Clemence have been working very hard to organise a competition to raise money for CAFOD this Lent. They have asked children to design their own Easter eggs, the winners will be announced Monday 3rd April.
