World War One Medals
As a class, we would like to say a huge thank you to Hannah Deverey's family who have kindly let us look at their family's World War One medals.
The medals were awarded to Hannah's great uncle who joined the East Lancashire Regiment as a private soldier, aged 23. He was shipped to France and was involved in the Battles of Somme, Verdun and Ypres. William was awarded the Distinguish Conduct Medal (the second highest award after the Victoria Cross) as well as the British War Medal, Victory Medal and a Cap Badge.
We will remember William in our prayers this week as well as the other soldiers who fought to defend our country.
