This week Year 2 visited the Maritime Museum in Liverpool to link with our current History topic about the Titanic. We looked around the Titanic exhibit and we were able to learn all about the ship and what happened during the disaster. We were able to dress up as different people who would have been aboard the ship and looked at the differences between the various classes. Then, we listened to the story of Polar the Titanic Bear and all got involved with telling the story of how he and his owner went on an incredible adventure onboard the impressive ship.

We had lots of fun singing together and we managed to sing an amazing 20 songs! We also learnt a special song, as a class and we were able to go and perform this song to our buddy class in the juniors.

World Book Day 2018

Date: 2nd Mar 2018 @ 10:57am

We had great fun during World Book Day. We all had fantastic costumes and we loved talking to our friends about which character we were and which book they were from. Year 4 came over to give us our books and they were wonderful. So much effort and time went into them, another huge big thanks to Mr McCann's class. I wonder if you can guess who we came as?

Chinese New Year

Date: 9th Feb 2018 @ 5:56pm

Today, we looked at the celebration of Chinese New Year. We read a traditional tale from China and talked about this in our classes. Also we were able to make our own Chinese dragons, that we then used to perform our own dragon dances. We tasted some delicious prawn crackers and all really enjoyed reading the fortunes that were inside our cookies.

Gong Hey Fat Choy from Year 2!

Year 2 Presentation from Community Support Officer

Date: 8th Feb 2018 @ 2:43pm

Today the Year 2 children has a presentation from Lindsay King who is a Community Support Officer for Altrincham. Lindsay talked to the children about how to stay safe online. She talked about the importance of following rules and to always make sure that parents know what you are doing online. The children listened attentively and answered questions and offered information about different apps and websites they use and access. The presentation was extremely informative and the children understood the safety messages delivered by Lindsay.

Safer Internet Day

Date: 7th Feb 2018 @ 12:51pm

In the Infant Department we had  a very busy and informative day for Internet Safety Day. The infant children enjoyed an assembly that was presented to them by the Year 5 digital leaders. The Year 5 children  delivered online safety messages to the children through role play and drama.

In class the children then made their own online safety badges, which we are sure provided a talking point at home.

Year 2 children also made their own digital footprints and took part in a class quiz.

Teeth Experiment

Date: 7th Dec 2017 @ 11:18am

In Science, we have been learning all about how to keep our bodies healthy. This week we have set up an experiment all about our teeth. We have placed an egg in several liquids and we are going to leave it there and observe what happens to it over a week. The shell of the egg is like the enamel on our teeth and we are curious to find out what will happen to it when it is left in juice, coca-cola, water and milk over time.

Breaking News! Samuel Pepys' Diary stolen from Year 2!

Date: 7th Dec 2017 @ 11:05am

Year 2 received and amazing parcel from the British Library in London. They were asked to look after one of the treasured diaries written by Samuel Pepys in the 1600’s. They were also sent some samples of the traditional bread that would have baked at Pudding Lane bakery and the cheese that Mr Pepys loved so much.

Unfortunatley, the diary was taken by the notorious theif Sticky Finger Steve. The Year 2’s were given the important job of writing to Steve and persuading him to give back the diaries. Year 2 wrote some amazing persuasive letters and fortunately the diaries were returned just in time to be sent back to the British Library. Phew!

Farm to Fork

Date: 7th Nov 2017 @ 2:50pm

Last week Year 2 went to Tesco for our Farm to Fork school trip. The day began by meeting Charlene and Beth who were teaching us about healthy living. We went on a hunt to find as many different coloured fruit and vegetables as we could. After that we learnt about how much sugar we were allowed to eat in a day. Lots of us were shocked to find out that some cereals have lots of sugar in, some even have more than our daily allowance! We then got to try some tasty healthy snacks. Finally we all got ingredients to make our very own muesli. We had a great day and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to Tesco and as always, thank you to our parent helpers who helped out.

Where The Wild Things Are

Date: 6th Oct 2017 @ 1:30pm

This week we have been looking at the story Where The Wild Things Are. We have been looking at the verbs in the story and we made our very own verb rap with actions. Later in the week we all went into the 'forest' and found clues from the Wild Things. They left rotten, yellow teeth that were as sharp as a silver sword. They also left brown, soft fur that was as fluffy as a cuddle teddy bear. We all came up with similes and tried to include adjectives too! Look at the pictures to see what else they found!

Fun on No Pens Wednesday!

Date: 6th Oct 2017 @ 12:58pm

This week was Dyslexia Awareness Week and we all took part in No Pens Wednesday. We started the day with a verb action rap followed by conscience alley focusing on the story 'Where the Wild Things Are'. We discussed whether the forest grew in Max's room and explained our reasons why we thought that. We discussed feelings and emotions also. We then moved onto our maths lesson where we learnt about the properties of 3D shapes, made nets and played interactive maths games. In Science, we catergorised items into living, non living and never lived.

We all throughly enjoyed our day and we learnt lots without picking up a pencil or pen!

Monster Madness

Date: 22nd Sep 2017 @ 3:59pm

This week we read the book 'Not Now Bernard' and we had lots of fun imitating the monster in the story. We all took part in a freeze frame activity where we had to show different emotions. We then got into our classes and drew our own monsters. We added colour and then came up with 2AD phrases to go with what we had drawn. It was a great team effort by all!

Roald Dahl Day

Date: 22nd Sep 2017 @ 3:50pm

Last week on Wednesday it was Roald Dahl Day. In Year Two we all had lots of fun creating our very own 'marvellous medicine'. We put lots of interesting ingredients into it and we all came up with our own adjectives to describe our medicine.

Our school trip to Brockholes

Date: 23rd Jun 2017 @ 3:24pm

We all had a great day on our school trip! We started the day with pond dipping where we found lots of different fishes and insects. We then went on a minibeast hunt in the forestry. We used magnifying glasses to look closely at what we found. Finally we finished the day with den building.  We have all had a wonderful trip and we are looking forward to following up what we learnt today in school next week. A big thank you to the parents who helped out, it is much appreciated.

Easter Liturgy

Date: 12th Apr 2017 @ 3:57pm

This week Year 1 performed their Easter Liturgy to the infant children, the teachers and their families. The children were amazing singers and actors and we are all very proud of each and every one of them. Well done!

Outdoor RE!

Date: 11th May 2017 @ 2:20pm

In Year 1 today we made the most of the beautiful sunshine by taking the learning outside for a short time. We listened to the story of Jesus appearing to the disciples in the 'upper room' following The Resurrection. We discussed with our talk partners the questions the disciples may have had for Jesus.

Stations of the Cross

Date: 11th Apr 2017 @ 3:49pm

Following our Easter Liturgy this morning our Year 1 children continued their Holy Week experience by taking part in a reflection on the Stations of the Cross.

Fun on 'Crazy Tights and Ties' day

Date: 31st Mar 2017 @ 4:49pm

Today we all came to school wearing either crazy ties or tights for our chosen charity Joining Jack. Lots of effort and creativity went into this, a big thank you to parents for your continued support.

Science Week

Date: 29th Mar 2017 @ 11:58pm

Science Week was full of lots of practical activities and experiments. The children began the week by making scientific predictions about change. We looked at what happens to skittles once they are put into water. We all watched as the colours started to create a wonderful pattern.

Following on from this we had a visit from Dr Nick who talked to us about change and how different materials can change. We all had an ice cube to hold and we discussed what happens to the ice once it melts. Some of us pretended to be particles and helped Dr Nick to show this change from a solid to a liquid.

We were then given an ice cube, a piece of string, some salt and some water. We wanted to see if we could melt the ice with the salt, hold the string and then pour water over to refreeze the ice. Most of us managed it first time around, lots of us thought it was magic!

World Book Day 2017

Date: 29th Mar 2017 @ 11:34pm

World Book Day was enjoyed by all. Each child had the opportunity to dress up as a character from their favourite book. We started the morning of with a parade in the infant hall. We then went over to Year 5 - Mrs Sutton's class where each child was given a personalised book. A big thank you once again to Year 5, the books were amazing. Although it was a very hard decision as so much effort and thought went into all costumes, the best costume winner went to Aidan who dressed up as 'The Shark in the Park'.
