Atlantic Adventures!
Mr Phelan, (Ciara’s dad) came in to talk to us about the fantastic adventure that he will soon be taking part in - rowing solo across the Atlantic!
He showed us pictures of all of the food that he will have to pack to take with him for the 60 day (or so) journey, lots of chocolate, haribo and crisps! Jim will have a water maker on board to make his own water for drinking too.
Jim has been practising rowing, training and learning a lot of new skills like tying knots in preparation for the race.
The race starts from an island called La Gomera near Tenerife and finishes in Antigua.
There will be 35 other boats taking part with 109 competitors from 15 different countries.
We asked Jim why he was going to do this and he said that he wanted to challenge himself and learn new skills, he wanted to set an example to Ciara and her brother Sam (and anyone else) that you can do difficult things if you work really hard and keep trying and also he is going to raise money for Team Felix, a fantastic charity close to our hearts.
Jim will start his adventure on 12th December and we wish him all the best and look forward to hearing about his adventures when he gets back!
