How we Assess the Impact of the Curriculum
We ascertain learning and the impact of the curriculum in 3 ways:
- Daily formative assessment – to inform and adapt teaching on an ongoing basis
- Summative assessment – to ascertain knowledge and understanding at the end of a series of lessons.
- Statutory assessment – to ascertain knowledge and understanding in relation to National expectations.
Daily Formative Assessment
We check on what pupils know and can do by checking on progress in lessons. This helps us to identify any gaps in learning so that we can help pupils to build their knowledge securely on what they already know. Our effective feedback and marking, together with recap and recall allows us to ascertain knowledge and understanding. This helps us to adapt teaching in order to build on next steps in learning for all pupils, and all subjects.
Summative Assessment
We check the knowledge, skills and understanding of a series of lessons by quizzes and tests.
Statutory Assessment
Early Years Foundation Stage
The statutory EYFS Framework requires the EYFS profile assessment to be carried out in the final term of the year in which a child reaches age 5, and no later than 30 June in that term. Practitioners will use their professional judgement to make these assessments, based on their knowledge and understanding of what the child knows, understands, and can do. Summative assessment is based on an holistic view of what the child can demonstrate against each of the Early Learning Goals at the end of the Reception year.
Key stage 1 Assessments
We will continue to assess pupils in Key Stage 1. This includes the:
- End of Key Stage 1 assessments
- Phonics screening
Teachers will make their Teacher Assessment (TA) judgements using the:
- TA Frameworks in English reading, English writing, mathematics and science for pupils who have completed the KS1 Programmes of Study and are working at the standard of National Curriculum assessments.
Teachers will administer the English reading and mathematics tests to help make a secure judgement for their final teacher assessment at the end of Key Stage 1. The tests make up one piece of evidence for the overall teaching as the teacher assessment judgement. The following link will provide a guide to the National Curriculum Assessments: Key Stage 1 https://youtu.be/cuXJidYP7-0 Further information for parents can be found here.
Key Stage 2 Assessments
All existing statutory Key Stage 2 assessments will follow their usual timetable. This includes:
